Making Atlantis rings has been my passion and obsession for many years, but turning them into a literal light vessel is a more recent discovery.
I came across the process of anodizing when researching new metalworking techniques around 2010. It fascinated me how reactive metals could capture and retain the beautiful colors of the light spectrum naturally just by the exposure to heat or electricity.

My first attempts then were with titanium sheets and wire and mostly with a torch that produced beautiful colors – all of which were randomly produced without much control.
When I started producing my Atlantis rings in titanium, it ocurred to me that a combination of the Luxor symbol with these powerful natural frequencies picked up by the metal would be an interesting experiment. In 2018, I acquired a professional anodizing machine which would give me more control over the process since I could select the electrical voltage to apply to the piece and create whatever color range I desired.
It took lots of trial and error to get the brightest and most powerful results, and they came out stunningly beautiful.
The way it works is very simple. Titanium has an ability to form a natural oxide layer on its surface that reflects the colors of the light spectrum. This fine oxide layer is transparent and created by a reaction of the metal to either heat or electricity. The thickness of this layer will vary according to the temperature of the flame or the voltage applied. For example, 25V will render a beautiful indigo blue and 78V a pink shade. No dies, pigments or tints are used, purely heat or electricity. A solution of distilled water and an electrolyte substance such as baking soda or TSP cleaner can be used to conduct the electricity in a bath where the metal is immersed during the process.
I perfected the process with various experiments and created a chart with amazing color frequencies.
As beautiful and energetically powerful these pieces are, they are also fragile as the oxide layer may be scratched off if it endures too much surface contact. When not exposed to surface scratching, these pieces will keep their color bright and beautiful forever. To protect the color on the bottom I suggest that my clients wear a simple 2 mm or larger stacking ring so it absorbs some of the impact of daily use. Re-anodizing is also possible if the client wants to have a brand new color layer once in a while.
