Atlantis Ring and Atlantis Pendant
How our Atlantis Ring is made
The original models carved in wax by the jewelry artist
This is the original work that produced the atlantis ring available on this website. The atlantis ring carved out of a block of wax. From the original model a mold was made from which new wax pieces are produced for the casting process.
This is the wax model that originated the Atlantis pendant.
The location
This is the artist's studio in the west island of Montreal.
The casting process
The casting process involves the following:
- A model is carved in wax or produced by injecting a mold made from the original wax model.
- The model is placed in a cylinder where investment ( a white plaster mixture ) is poured in.
- The cylinder is placed in a kiln at a certain temperature for a few hours and the wax melts leaving cavities with the details of the model.
- The cylinder is then placed in a centrifugal casting machine ( there are other types of machines but this is the one used in our casting process ).
- The metal is then melted in a crucible and the centrifuge is activated. Centrifugal or spinning motion creates a force that pushes the metal into the cavities of the cylinder.
- The cylinder is cooled and the plaster is broken to reveal the metal pieces.
- The items are then polished.
This is the original Atlantis ring found in 1860.
